A child riding a bicycle suffered life-threatening injuries Monday, Sept. 7, after being struck by a driver in northeast Hillsboro, on the same block as Jackson Elementary School.
The crash happened around 4 p.m. on Northeast Cabrey Court, off Jackson School Road, according to KATU. A Hillsboro Fire & Rescue spokesperson told the station that a child on a bike suffered life-threatening injuries after being struck by a driver. The child was taken to a hospital by Life Flight helicopter ambulance.
Hillsboro Police confirmed to KGW that the person injured is a juvenile. No other details about the child's age or identity have been released.
The driver was not cited.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with officers, according to KATU. Police had not issued any citations as of Monday.
Road closures and emergency response
Hillsboro Fire & Rescue posted on X around the time of the crash, alerting drivers that firefighters were responding to a serious injury crash on Northeast Cabrey Court near Jackson School Road. The department said northbound lanes of Jackson School Road were blocked and Life Flight had been activated.
Hillsboro Police said around 4:30 p.m. that Jackson School Road was closed between Northeast Estate Drive and Rogahn Street. That stretch sits on the same block as Jackson Elementary School, according to KGW.
The police department said in a social media post that those involved were being treated for their injuries. The department asked residents to take alternate routes while emergency crews responded and said it would share an update once the road reopened.
What remains unknown
Officials provided few details about the circumstances of the crash. KOIN reported that Hillsboro Fire & Rescue officials said they did not have any other information about what led to the collision.
No update on the child's condition after the airlift has been confirmed. The Hillsboro Police Department has not announced whether a formal investigation is underway or when it expects to release further details.
