Hillsboro residents can get confidential documents destroyed for free Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Hillsboro Police Department's annual fall Shred It event.

The drive-up event runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Hillsboro Stadium, or until shredding trucks are full. Iron Mountain will shred documents on-site, according to the city's event calendar.

Each participant can bring up to four boxes or bags. Only paper is accepted. Paper clips and staples are fine, but binders, binder clips, metal file folders, batteries and other non-paper items are not.

Donations are accepted to benefit the Hillsboro Police Cadet Program, a volunteer program for residents ages 15 to 20 who serve as uniformed members of the department.
