The Hillsboro Schools Foundation holds a Back-to-School Social at the Streets of Tanasbourne on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 1 to 4 p.m.

The event is a fundraiser for the nonprofit, which supports programs across Hillsboro-area public schools. Activities include STEM robotics and slot cars, hands-on time with reptiles, a giant bubble show, a mobile library, face painting and live music.

A Kona Ice truck will also be on site. Donations from purchases go to the foundation.

The district posted the announcement in both English and Spanish.

The foundation, led by Executive Director Aron Carleson, funds classroom projects that fall outside normal school budgets. This spring, HSF awarded 15 Engagement Grants to district schools for the 2026-27 year during a "Surprise Patrol" visit the week of May 18.

Twelve grants came from HSF directly, and three from anonymous donors. Funded projects include an art literacy curriculum at McKinney Elementary, barbering and cosmetology stations at R.A. Brown Middle School and board game design tools at Century High School.

In a May announcement, the district described the grants as funding experiences that would not be possible under normal school funding.

HSF is also launching a three-year CEO Initiative aimed at connecting students through extracurricular activities. The foundation's Champions of Education sponsors include Vernier, First Tech Federal Credit Union and Intel.

Coming up: HSF's third annual 5K Fun Run/Walk, Making Strides for Education, takes place Saturday, Oct. 3, at Orenco Station. Registration is open at hsfonline.org.
