A video store where the horror movies come to life is opening in downtown Hillsboro this Halloween, and it won't cost you a thing.

Killin Time Haunts is a haunted maze run by one family. For three years it lived in their home in the Cedar Mill area. This October it moves to Hillsboro for the first time, filling the Tuality Masonic Lodge for five nights of scares.

The theme is back by popular demand

This year's maze brings back last year's fan favorite, "Killin Time Video." Guests start in an old-school video rental store. From there they head into eight all-new rooms, each built around a horror movie.

The family builds the whole thing themselves. Their goal is simple: give the community something fun and free to do for Halloween.

Scared of scares? There's an option for that

Live scare actors hide throughout the maze. Guests who'd rather not be startled can choose a no-scare walk-through, so the whole family can come along.

Entry is free. Organizers ask guests to bring nonperishable food for the Oregon Food Bank if they can. Donations are welcome but not required.
