Hillsboro families with unvaccinated children need to get their kids two doses of MMR vaccine before the first day of school on or around September 8 and a measles outbreak spreading across the Portland metro area makes the timeline urgent.

Oregon has recorded 32 measles cases in 2026, its highest annual total in more than three decades, according to The Oregonian. Twenty-nine of those patients were unvaccinated or had unknown vaccination status. Two have been hospitalized.

Six new cases confirmed in Clark County, Washington, on Saturday, July 25, all involved unvaccinated children, KATU reported. No public exposure sites were identified in those cases.

New exposure sites keep growing

Health officials have identified at least six potential exposure locations since July 17, several within a short drive of Hillsboro:

• Legacy GoHealth Urgent Care, 2850 S.E. Powell Valley Road, Unit 100, Gresham, Sunday, July 26, 3:05–7:09 p.m.
• Providence St. Vincent Medical Center, East Pavilion lobby, elevators and seventh floor, 9155 S.W. Barnes Road, Portland, Tuesday, July 28, 10:20 a.m.–12:55 p.m.
• Vancouver Clinic, Salmon Creek, 2525 N.E. 139th St., Friday, July 17, 1:30–5:30 p.m.

The Oregon Health Authority and Multnomah County health officials announced the Gresham clinic exposure on Wednesday, July 29.

Sky Zone Beaverton sits less than four miles from the Century High School campus.

What HSD families need to know

Oregon law requires two doses of MMR vaccine for all students entering kindergarten through sixth grade, according to the Oregon Health Authority's immunization requirements. School administrators must exclude students who cannot show proof of immunization.

The Hillsboro School District's 2026-27 calendar features a post-Labor Day start, placing the first day of school on or around Tuesday, September 8. Because the MMR series requires two doses spaced at least 28 days apart, families starting from scratch need to schedule a first shot by early August to complete the series before school begins.

"We are witnessing an avoidable crisis that disproportionally hurts children," Andrew Racine, president of the American Academy of Pediatrics, said July 23 in response to the national outbreak, which has topped 2,318 confirmed U.S. cases this year, according to CIDRAP.

How to check records and get vaccinated

Parents can verify their child's immunization status through Oregon's ALERT Immunization Information System or by contacting their pediatrician. The Hillsboro School District's immunization page lists requirements and links to exemption rates by school.

Hillsboro Pediatric Clinic is offering in-home vaccine visits through June 2027; families can call 503-640-2757. Washington County Public Health also provides immunization resources and appointment scheduling for families needing to update records.

Anyone who visited an exposure site and is unsure of their immunity should call a health care provider before going to a clinic, the OHA said, so staff can take precautions to protect other patients. The MMR vaccine can still prevent infection if given within 72 hours of exposure.
