Liberty put up 42 points on Beaverton on Friday, Sept. 11, winning 42-21 and improving to 2-0.

The Falcons' win was the highlight of a mixed Friday night for Hillsboro School District football, according to the Hillsboro News-Times. Century fell 21-13 at Forest Grove, Glencoe lost 63-18 to No. 3-ranked Tualatin, and Hilhi dropped a 26-6 decision to La Salle Prep.

Liberty 42, Beaverton 21

Liberty, which moved down from 6A to 5A this season, beat 6A Beaverton in a non-league matchup. The Falcons opened the year with a tight 15-12 win over Churchill on Sept. 4 but won by 21 in Week 2.

Junior quarterback Jaxson James, in his second year as the starter, leads a roster that graduated 22 seniors from last year's squad. His father, Matt James, a former Hillsboro High School and Portland State University quarterback, coaches receivers on the Liberty staff.

In an Aug. 20 preseason profile in the Hillsboro News-Times, James set the bar high: "I think this is a group that can make it to the state championship … We have such a good culture."

Forest Grove 21, Century 13

Century's Week 1 momentum stalled at Forest Grove High School. The Jaguars opened with a 39-20 win over Southridge on Sept. 4. They could not keep pace with Forest Grove head coach Cam McFarland's squad in a 6A matchup.

Century drops to 1-1.

Tualatin 63, Glencoe 18

Tualatin, ranked No. 3 in the state 6A coaches poll after Week 1, piled up 63 points against head coach Ian Reynoso's Crimson Tide. Reynoso has been with the Glencoe program since 2009 and played at the University of Oregon. His team falls to 0-2 after a 28-17 Week 1 loss to Mountainside.

La Salle Prep 26, Hilhi 6

Hilhi's offense struggled for the second straight week. The Spartans managed just six points against La Salle Prep, matching their output in a 31-6 Week 1 loss to North Salem. Hilhi falls to 0-2.

Week 3

Liberty hosts Sunset at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18. Glencoe travels to Westview the same night.
