Century and Liberty opened the 2026 high school football season with victories Friday, Sept. 4, while Glencoe and Hilhi fell in their openers.
All four Hillsboro School District programs took the field for Week 1. The games came just days after the school year began Sept. 1, making them the first athletic contests of the 2026-27 year.
Century posted the biggest win of the night, rolling past Southridge 39-20 in a Class 6A matchup. The Jaguars' 39 points were the most scored by any HSD team on opening night.
Liberty pulled off the closest game among local programs, edging Churchill 15-12 in Class 5A. The three-point margin made the win all the more notable given that seven of 12 panelists on OregonLive's preseason predictions had picked Churchill. The Falcons proved the panel wrong.
Glencoe fell to Mountainside 28-17 in Class 6A. The Crimson Tide were heavy underdogs going in. Eleven of 12 OregonLive panelists had picked Mountainside.
Hilhi had the toughest night. North Salem beat the Spartans 31-6, according to the Hillsboro News-Times scoreboard. Hilhi's six points were the fewest scored by an HSD team in Week 1.
The district went 2-2.
OregonLive's statewide results confirmed the Century and Liberty scores.
