A McMinnville man facing first-degree sodomy and first-degree sexual abuse charges may have been involved in youth soccer in the Hillsboro area, and investigators believe there could be additional victims beyond the one identified so far.
The Yamhill County Sheriff's Office publicly identified Luis Miguel Straub in its appeal for potential victims to come forward. Straub was arrested Tuesday, July 28, and booked into the Yamhill County Jail after detectives determined he allegedly abused a minor he had frequent contact with between 2014 and 2019, according to KGW, citing the sheriff's office.
The alleged abuse occurred in Lafayette, a small Yamhill County city about 30 miles southwest of Hillsboro.
Hillsboro connection
The sheriff's office said Straub may have been involved in youth soccer in the Hillsboro area, though no specific league or club has been named. He has also been employed by a business that provides support to people with disabilities.
The employer has not been publicly identified.
Investigators are concerned there may be additional victims given Straub's past roles with access to minors and people with disabilities, KOIN reported.
The case moved fast. The investigation opened Monday, July 27, when the Yamhill County Sheriff's Office and the Special Investigations Unit began looking into reported sexual abuse in Lafayette. Straub was arrested Tuesday, July 28.
No arraignment date or next court appearance has been announced.
