Hillsboro School District Superintendent Reiman is inviting residents to sit down over coffee and talk about what's happening in local schools.

The superintendent will hold two drop-in coffee chats in October, according to a district announcement posted Friday, Oct. 9. The first is Tuesday, Oct. 13, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Cabana do Café, 320 SE Baseline St. in downtown Hillsboro. The second is Thursday, Oct. 22, at the same time at Copperhead Coffee, 2020 NE Cornell Rd.

Both sessions are no-host, meaning attendees buy their own drinks. The announcement was published in both English and Spanish.

No registration is required.

The district described the events as casual opportunities for community members to learn about school activities and ask questions. Individual student concerns won't be addressed at the chats; the district said those will be referred to the appropriate principal or staff member to protect student privacy.

Coffee chats are part of a broader engagement push by the district. HSD's 2025-26 board goals, adopted at the Sept. 9, 2025, board meeting, list the chats among events board members are expected to attend as part of an "Active Engagement" goal.

Hillsboro voters will also decide on Measure 34-355, a $430 million construction bond, on Tuesday, Nov. 3. The measure would fund school safety and security upgrades, building and infrastructure repairs and expanded vocational classrooms, KGW reported. The proposed levy rate is $1.84 per $1,000 of assessed value, which the district has said is lower than the rate taxpayers paid under the previous bond cycle. Ballots begin mailing Wednesday, Oct. 14.

HSD's last construction bond, approved in November 2017, was $408 million. The district's bond overview page notes the 2026 measure was planned after the 2006 bonds were paid off.

Tuesday, Oct. 13, is also Oregon's voter registration deadline for the November election.
