The Hillsboro Hops will open their ballpark for an adults-only fundraiser on Saturday, Nov. 7, with proceeds going toward synthetic turf fields for local youth baseball and softball teams.
The event, called "Take Me Out to the Ballpark: A Social Evening with Purpose," starts at 7 p.m. at Hops Ballpark. Tickets are on sale and include drinks, heavy appetizers and behind-the-scenes ballpark access, according to the team's announcement. Attendees must be 21 or older. The announcement did not include a ticket price.
Interactive games, raffles and entertainment round out the evening.
"It's a great opportunity to bring our community together, create new memories, and make a meaningful impact on youth sports and education," Hannah August, the Hops' senior director of merchandise and community engagement, said in the announcement.
Proceeds benefit the Hillsboro Hops Fund, a community program focused on education, health and youth activities in the greater Hillsboro area. The fund's primary goal is refurbishing fields and installing synthetic turf so youth teams can play year-round.
The fund said all money raised goes directly back into the community to support children who want to play baseball and softball but lack the resources.
The fundraiser comes as Hillsboro works to replace youth fields lost when the new $153 million Hops Ballpark was built on top of three of nine fields at the Gordon Faber Complex along U.S. 26. The stadium, which opened in April, was financed with $41 million in public funds and $112 million in private financing. The Hops hold a 40-year lease on the city-owned ballpark.
The city and Washington County are planning a new sports complex at the nearby county fairgrounds, with four multi-use turf fields for softball, baseball and soccer, OPB reported March 26. The Washington County Board of Commissioners approved the fairgrounds complex lease on May 19.
Hillsboro sports facilities manager Durelle Singleton told OPB the current fairgrounds fields are on the far "low-end" condition-wise, with muddy grass making them unusable for a large portion of the year. The city plans to fund the replacement complex with $20 million generated from a portion of ticket fees on games and events at the new Hops ballpark. Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in 2027.
