Hillsboro School District elementary students in pre-K through third grade and fifth grade will receive vision screenings starting in mid-September.

The district is partnering with the Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation (OLSHF) to conduct the screenings, according to an HSD announcement. The annual screenings fulfill a requirement under Oregon House Bill 3000, a 2013 state law that requires students age seven or younger, or those entering public school for the first time, to receive a vision screening or eye exam.

Under the law, families must provide schools with certification that their child has been screened within 120 days of starting school.

OLSHF, a Portland-based nonprofit affiliated with the Lions Clubs of Oregon, says it screens more than 200,000 students statewide each year. The 2026-27 school year began Sept. 1 for grades 1-6 and Sept. 2 for kindergarten.

Parents with questions can contact their school's office manager or call the HSD Vision Screening Team at 503-844-1748.
