Ten recent Glencoe High School graduates walked out of a construction classroom and into skilled jobs at a Hillsboro semiconductor supplier.
The graduates, all from Glencoe's construction program, were hired by Ultra Clean Technologies within weeks of their June 6 commencement, according to a Hillsboro School District announcement published Sept. 11. UCT supplies critical components and cleaning services to chipmakers and operates two Hillsboro facilities, on NE Moore Court and NE Jacobson Street.
Construction teacher Todd Patterson set the connection in motion. He spoke with a UCT employee last spring and learned the company was preparing to ramp up production. Patterson suggested the employee talk to his seniors. Students interviewed quickly, and Patterson said the graduates are now earning good wages and building products at the company.
"I think what they took away from my class were employability skills like showing up on time, working hard, and having a good attitude," Patterson said in the district's announcement. "Also, they were all comfortable using hand tools and power tools, and were skilled with basic measuring practice."
The hirings align with UCT's broader expansion signals. The company, publicly traded on Nasdaq as UCTT and headquartered in Hayward, California, appointed a new chief operating officer in January 2026, framing the move as preparation for "the next semiconductor ramp." UCT also acquired Hillsboro-based HIS Innovations Group, a sub-fab supplier, in October 2023, keeping that team local.
The placements came through the district's Career and College Pathway program, which connects students with workforce skills before graduation. Hillsboro has a deep manufacturing base. The district launched what it called Oregon's first industry-recognized youth apprenticeship in advanced manufacturing in August 2022.
Neither UCT nor any of the hired graduates have commented publicly. The district announcement did not specify wages or say whether UCT plans additional hiring from Hillsboro schools.
