A 16-year-old Hillsboro girl has been missing for five days, and her father is asking anyone with information to call him directly.
Keyana Allison left her family's home at Hampshire Downs Apartments in northeast Hillsboro at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 7, according to the Hillsboro Police Department's bulletin. She left a birthday card for her father, Dirk Allison, that expressed depression and thoughts of self-harm. Police describe her as struggling with depression and say the note stated she was "mentally drained" and had "thoughts of death."
Her phone has been inactive since she left. Security footage from the apartment complex did not show her walking off the property, leading her father to believe she may have departed in a vehicle.
No vehicle or driver has been identified.
Dirk Allison told the Hillsboro Herald that Keyana had access to an unrestricted phone and may have been in contact with adults unknown to the family. He does not believe she had access to any money when she disappeared.
"Keyana has been struggling with depression," Allison said in a public flyer distributed Aug. 11. "If you see her or have any information to her whereabouts please contact myself at 971-930-3826 or Hillsboro Police at 503-629-0111, please reference Case #26-15019."
Keyana is described as a white female, 5 feet 7 inches tall, approximately 130 pounds, with light brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a tank top and sport shorts and may have been carrying a backpack. A close family friend wrote on Facebook that Keyana recently expressed interest in vacant or abandoned places.
Allison said he is concerned his daughter could be a target of human trafficking, given her possible online contact with unknown adults. The Hillsboro Police Department and Washington County Sheriff's Office are both investigating the case.
The concern comes amid heightened awareness of online predators in the area. On June 4, the Washington County Sheriff's Office and Hillsboro Police conducted a joint undercover child predator sting that resulted in five arrests on charges of luring a minor and online sexual corruption of a child. That operation is not confirmed to be connected to Keyana's case.
Keyana is a student at Glencoe High School. Members of the school's staff have been helping the family search, according to her father.
Residents near Hampshire Downs Apartments with security cameras or Ring doorbells are asked to review footage from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 7 for any sighting of Keyana.
