The Washington County Fair opens Friday, July 24, at Westside Commons in Hillsboro with free admission, 32 carnival rides, and 10 nights of live music.

But residents don't have to wait until then to get out. Between mid-July and Aug. 2, markets, trivia nights, and library programs are already running across the city.

Farmers markets every weekend

The Downtown Hillsboro Saturday Farmers' Market is back on its regular schedule at 150 E. Main St., running 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Saturday.

The nonprofit Hillsboro Farmers' Markets, which operates four market locations across the city, also runs the Orenco Station Sunday Farmers' Market from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., where live musicians play while shoppers browse local produce and artisan goods.

Both markets run through the summer. Details on the organization's other locations, including Reed's Crossing at Tamarack Park in South Hillsboro, are at hillsboromarkets.org.

Trivia and movies at Downtown Station

Hillsboro Downtown Station, at 320 SE Baseline St., hosts free Trivia Night every Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m., run by Last Call Trivia. No team size limit. Gift cards to the Station Bar go to the top three teams: $35 for first, $28 for second, $21 for third.

Movie Night screens biweekly on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. with free popcorn. The most recent showing was "Lilo & Stitch" on Wednesday, July 8. Check hillsborodowntownstation.com for the next screening date.

Library programs

The Hillsboro Brookwood Library at 2850 NE Brookwood Parkway hosts Find Your Voice Toastmasters International on Tuesday, July 14. The library also offers recurring programs including Bilingual Storytime (Cuentos Bilingües) at noon and Toddler Storytime at 10:15 a.m., plus one-on-one tech help through its Digital Navigator program.

Washington County Fair: July 24 through Aug. 2

The big draw later this month is the Washington County Fair, running Friday, July 24, through Sunday, Aug. 2, at Westside Commons, 801 NE 34th Ave. Kalena O'Connell of the Hillsboro News-Times reported the fair will feature Butler Amusement's 32 rides, including the Zipper, a Ferris wheel, and Area 51. Unlimited ride wristbands cost $36 on weekdays and $41 on weekends.

Free Main Stage concerts start at 8 p.m. nightly. The lineup includes Sawyer Brown on Friday, July 24; Earth to Mars (a Bruno Mars tribute) on Wednesday, July 29; and Queen Nation on Saturday, Aug. 1. Movie nights screen "Tangled" on Monday, July 27, and a Disney/Pixar film on Tuesday, July 28.
