Two Hillsboro elementary schools will have new leaders when students return this fall.

On June 26, Superintendent Travis Reiman announced Aurora Lopez will take over as principal of Mooberry Elementary and Devin Dye will lead North Plains Elementary, both starting in the 2026-27 school year.

The appointments fill vacancies left by the previous principals, who moved to other schools within the district, according to the Hillsboro School District press release.

Lopez spent the past three years as a K-6 Humanities teacher on special assignment (TOSA), supporting literacy and social studies instruction across the district through coaching, professional development, and resource design.

Before that, she taught for nine years at Witch Hazel Elementary as a Dual Language teacher and instructional coach.

She has worked with HSD's Bilingual Enrichment Program and Migrant Summer School since 2017, serving as assistant lead for Migrant Summer School during the 2025-26 school year.

Lopez has also filled in as a substitute administrator at both the elementary and middle school levels.

The assignment fits the school's community. Mooberry Elementary has an active Spanish-speaking Parent Advisory Committee and operates a food pantry for families.

"She is a dedicated community builder and an effective instructional leader who centers educational equity and understands that true transformation is built through a shared vision and data-based decision making," Reiman said in the announcement.

Dye currently serves as dean of students and interim assistant principal at South Meadows Middle School, where he has focused on using data to build systems that improve student outcomes.

His career in HSD spans classified staff, classroom teacher, and administrator roles at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.

His background in special education and bilingual education in Spanish and English shapes his approach.

Reiman described Dye as collaborative and focused on including all perspectives in decision-making.

The two hires are part of a broader wave of administrative changes across HSD for 2026-27. The district also named Graciela Cerda as the new principal of Imlay Elementary.

North Plains Elementary's school office opens August 14 at 7:30 a.m. The next HSD board meeting is scheduled virtually for July 7. The district published its announcement in both English and Spanish.
