Most Hillsboro School District students head back to class Tuesday, Sept. 1, but kindergartners and some older students will wait one more day.
The district's staggered opening schedule sends grades 1–6, 7 and 9 to school on Sept. 1. Kindergartners, eighth graders and students in grades 10–12 start Wednesday, Sept. 2.
The school board adopted the 2026-27 calendar at its Oct. 28, 2025, regular session.
Wednesday schedule starts immediately
The modified Wednesday schedule kicks in on Sept. 2 and runs every Wednesday for the rest of the year. Under the district's Academic Seminar model, middle and high schools start 30 minutes later than normal on Wednesdays, and elementary schools dismiss 30 minutes early. The time is reserved for staff professional learning and collaboration.
Exact bell times vary by school. The district directs families to check their individual school's website or back-to-school packet for specific start and dismissal times.
Expect a call the week of Aug. 24
Each school plans to call every family during the week of Monday, Aug. 24, to check in and identify supports students may need. Phone lines will be especially busy Wednesday, Aug. 26. The district asked families to save non-urgent calls to schools or the district office for another day.
Back-to-school packets available now
The district's 2026-27 back-to-school packets are already online. Families are asked to review the principal welcome letter and the Back to School News document, which includes required annual notifications.
Mark the calendar. Wednesday, Sept. 2, is the first day every Hillsboro student is expected in a seat.
