Big Ten women's soccer arrives at Hillsboro Stadium on Thursday, Aug. 13, when the University of Oregon opens its 2026 season against Portland State at 7 p.m.
The Ducks bring three Big Ten Preseason Watch List honorees and an improved defense to the 7,600-seat city-owned stadium on NE Century Boulevard, where Portland State plays its home matches. Oregon leads the all-time series 13-4-1 and has won the last four meetings against the Vikings.
Joyner's second season
Head coach Tracy Joyner enters her second year at Oregon after a 2025 campaign defined by tight margins. Fourteen of the Ducks' 18 matches last season were decided by one goal or ended in a draw. The defense allowed 21 goals, down from 33 in 2024, tied for the fifth fewest in program history.
Oregon closed 2025 on a high note, upsetting Big Ten champion Washington 2-1 on Oct. 26. Forward Carly Cormack scored her team-leading fourth goal in the 35th minute, and Lauren Kenny buried the winner from point-blank range on a set piece with two minutes remaining.
Players to watch
Cormack, Ellie Felt and Kenny earned spots on the 2026 Big Ten Preseason Watch List, according to the university's athletics department.
One name fans won't see Thursday: freshman forward Giselle White. The university announced Aug. 10 that White has been called up to Argentina's U20 National Team training camp ahead of the 2026 FIFA U20 Women's World Cup, which begins Sept. 5 in Poland. She won't be available for the opener.
Joyner's household is a two-coach operation. Her husband, Justin Joyner, is in his first season as Oregon State's men's basketball head coach after helping Michigan win the 2026 NCAA title as an assistant. According to the university, they are the only husband-and-wife pair to hold Division I head coaching positions at two different schools.
For Portland State
The Vikings open their 2026-27 schedule with back-to-back games, hosting Oregon on Thursday before traveling to Las Vegas to face UNLV on Sunday, according to Portland State Athletics. Key returners for the Vikings include Natalie Cunningham and McKenna Eggleston.
