High school juniors and seniors across the Hillsboro School District can now apply for a seat on Rep. Suzanne Bonamici's first-ever Congressional Youth Advisory Council, a program that puts students in direct conversation with the congresswoman and her staff about federal policy.

The Hillsboro School District posted the opportunity on its district news page Friday, Aug. 21. Applications are due Monday, Sept. 14.

Bonamici, a Democrat who has represented Oregon's 1st Congressional District since 2012, is billing the CYAC as a way for students interested in civic engagement and public service to help shape discussions on issues that matter to young people. The district stretches across Washington County and includes Hillsboro, Beaverton and portions of Portland's west side.

According to Bonamici's official program page, participants will meet with the congresswoman, congressional staff and expert guests throughout the 2026-27 academic year. The program is open to any junior or senior living in the 1st District, which means students at Glencoe, Hilhi, Century and Liberty high schools are all eligible.

This is the first time Bonamici's office has offered a youth advisory council. Cohort size and meeting details have not been announced, and it is unclear whether sessions will be held in person at her Beaverton district office or virtually.

The council is separate from other local civic programs the district has promoted in recent years. It is run directly through Bonamici's congressional office rather than a school or nonprofit partner.

Students or families with questions can call Bonamici's Beaverton office at (503) 469-6010. The office is at 12725 SW Millikan Way, Suite 220, in Beaverton.
