Families across Hillsboro can trick-or-treat at local businesses in three neighborhoods on Saturday, Oct. 31.
Downtown shops along Main Street, Orenco Station near Northeast Cornell Road and Reed's Crossing Town Center on Southeast Monarch Lane will all welcome costumed kids with free candy, according to the Hillsboro News Times. Each event runs on its own schedule, giving families a chance to hit more than one stop.
All three events are free. No registration is required.
Reed's Crossing Town Center: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The earliest option is at Reed's Crossing, where businesses are hosting their second annual trick-or-treating event. Waxing the City is organizing the celebration, which is open to all ages.
Orenco Station: 3 to 5 p.m.
More than 25 businesses in Orenco Station will take part in the neighborhood's annual trick-or-treat, organized by The Dentists at Orenco for Kids at 1322 N.E. Orenco Station Parkway. Maps will be available at each participating shop so families can find every stop.
Downtown Hillsboro: 5 to 7 p.m.
The Hillsboro Downtown Partnership is bringing back Trick or Treat on Main Street and the Avenues. Participating shops will display flyers in their windows. Streets will remain open to vehicle traffic during the event.
Free Costume Closet and donation drive
The partnership is also running its third annual Costume Closet Drive, collecting candy and gently used costumes to help families who need them. Donations can be dropped off at the Downtown Hive, 233 S.E. Washington St., from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays through Friday, Oct. 30.
The Free Costume Closet, which provides costumes at no cost to families experiencing hardship, is open Oct. 26 through 31 during business hours, according to the city of Hillsboro.
