The Hillsboro School District will host a free Native American/Alaska Native Heritage Month Celebration on Tuesday, Nov. 10 at Lincoln Street Elementary.
The event runs from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and is open to all district families, according to the district's announcement. Attendees can expect food, drumming and storytelling.
The celebration marks the second year the district has held the event. The district's Native American families page describes a "first ever" celebration held Nov. 6, 2025 at Orenco Elementary School. This year's event moves to Lincoln Street Elementary.
Two district pages list different addresses for the school. The announcement says 527 E. Main St. in Hillsboro, while the families page says 801 NE Lincoln St. Families should confirm the location with the district before attending.
In its announcement, the district acknowledged that it operates on the traditional, ancestral and unceded lands of the Atfalati Kalapuya people. The district said its educators have access to lessons for integrating Native American, Alaska Native and Indigenous histories throughout the school year, not only in November.
Maria Celino, the district's Title VI coordinator for the Native American and Alaska Native Education Program, is listed as a program contact. The federal Title VI program supports academic performance for American Indian and Alaska Native students enrolled in the district. Johannah Hafner, an educational liaison and student and family specialist, and Francesca Sinapi, the district's equity, access and engagement officer, are also listed as contacts for the program.
The celebration is one of several events the district highlighted for November. A Native American/Alaska Native Parent Advisory Committee meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 16 at HSD's Administration Center, 3083 NE 49th Pl. in Hillsboro. The district's announcement lists the meeting time as 5:30 to 7 p.m., while the families page lists it as 6 to 7:30 p.m. All families are welcome.
