A free Veterans Day ceremony in Hillsboro will honor six veterans on Wednesday, Nov. 11, one from each branch of the U.S. Armed Forces.
The Community, Military & Veteran Alliance of Oregon (CMVA) is collecting nominations through Wednesday, Oct. 28, as first reported by the Beaverton Valley Times. Honorees will be selected from the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Space Force and Coast Guard. Nominees must have a connection to Washington County through residency or community involvement.
The ceremony begins at 11 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Gateway, at the intersection of Northeast Veterans Drive and Northeast 34th Avenue near Westside Commons. The program includes a presentation of the colors, the National Anthem and recognition of veterans from each branch.
According to the CMVA, nominations do not need to highlight medals or military accomplishments. The group is looking for veterans whose stories reflect leadership, dedication or a positive impact on others. Anyone can submit a nomination.
Co-sponsors include the Washington County Chamber of Commerce, the Veterans Business Advisory Council, the Washington County Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol and the American Legion in Washington County.
Nomination forms are available on the CMVA event page.
