David Hagaman struck out 10 batters and allowed just one earned run in 6.1 innings on Saturday, August 1, as the Hillsboro Hops beat the Everett AquaSox 6-1 at Hops Ballpark, according to the Hillsboro News-Times. It was Hillsboro's third consecutive win over Everett in the six-game series.

Back-to-back two-run home runs by Avery Owusu-Asiedu and Joangel Gonzalez in the second inning broke the game open. Hillsboro added single runs in the seventh and eighth to put it away.

The win caps a remarkable turnaround in a series that started poorly. Everett took the first two games on Tuesday, July 28 (3-2) and Wednesday, July 29 (9-8, after the Hops blew an 8-2 lead). Since then, Hillsboro has outscored the AquaSox 22-6 across three straight victories.

Hagaman set the tone early. After surrendering an RBI single to Brandon Eike in the first inning, he retired Everett's lineup with efficiency, piling up strikeouts through the sixth. Relievers Tayler Montiel and Gonzalez finished the job, combining for 2.2 innings of one-hit ball with four strikeouts. Gonzalez contributed on both sides of the ball, adding the relief appearance after his second-inning homer.

Owusu-Asiedu and Adrian Rodrigues each finished with two hits and two RBI. Jose Mejia and JD Dix added two hits apiece.

The three-game winning streak improved Hillsboro's second-half record to 14-21. The Hops entered this homestand having snapped a brutal stretch in which they lost 16 of 18 games, as we reported July 28. Three straight wins over Everett have given the club its best momentum in weeks.

Everett starter Evan Truitt took the loss, giving up four earned runs in 5.2 innings.

The six-game series finale is Sunday, August 2, at 1:05 p.m. at Hops Ballpark, with Hillsboro looking to win four of six against Everett.
