The Oregon Ducks women's soccer team scored three goals in a 10-minute second-half burst to beat Portland State 3-0 on Thursday, Aug. 13, at Hillsboro Stadium, opening the 2026 season with a shutout in front of a local crowd.

Junior midfielder Carly Cormack led the attack with two goals and an assist, recording a five-point match for the first time in her career. Freshman forward Shiloh Baird capped the scoring with her first career goal, chipping the ball over Portland State goalkeeper Finley Crabtree from the right side in the 64th minute.

The Ducks dominated possession and chances all night, outshooting the Vikings 23-7 and putting 10 shots on goal to Portland State's zero. But the scoreboard stayed blank until the 54th minute, when Baird drew Crabtree off her line and dropped the ball to Cormack, who hammered a shot from 12 yards out.

Four minutes later, Abella Hunter fed a through ball to Cormack, who curled it inside the far-left post. Then Baird carried the ball down the right sideline and floated a chip over Crabtree into the upper-right corner to make it 3-0.

"I think we just had to get into our rhythm," Cormack told GoDucks.com. "We were right there, we were pushing it so when the ball went through, it was definitely a really good feeling and that's when our momentum really just took us."

Head coach Tracy Joyner, in a second season leading the program, called it "a pure team effort" and praised the halftime adjustments that unlocked the scoring.

Fifteen players made their Oregon debuts Thursday, including nine transfers and six freshmen. Portland native Ellie Felt started and matched her career high with three shots. Fellow Portlander Paige Nakada also drew a start.

Transfer goalkeeper Gray Willson played 73 minutes and freshman Kailey Kimball finished the final 17 as the pair combined for the clean sheet. Crabtree made seven saves for Portland State, which held a Power Four opponent scoreless for 80 minutes before the dam broke.

The matchup brought Division I college soccer to Hillsboro's home pitch. Oregon now leads the all-time series with Portland State 14-4-1 and has won five straight meetings.

Cormack's five-point night was the first by a Duck since Eden Hardy in 2021. She and Felt were named to the Big Ten Preseason Watch List entering the season. Oregon went 3-10-5 overall and 1-6-4 in Big Ten Conference play last year but allowed just 21 goals, tied for the fifth fewest in program history. Joyner's revamped roster showed Thursday that the offense may have caught up to the defense.

The Ducks play next on Sunday, Aug. 16, at Papé Field in Eugene against Gonzaga at 1 p.m. Big Ten Conference play opens Sept. 10 when Oregon hosts Rutgers.
