The Hillsboro Hops hit a home run with their first major holiday weekend at their new ballpark, drawing a franchise-record crowd over three days of baseball, fireworks and Fourth of July celebrations.

The Hops welcomed 13,320 fans to Hops Ballpark from July 3-5, setting a new mark for the biggest three-day attendance stretch in team history.

The biggest swing came Saturday, July 4, when 5,740 fans packed the stands for the Independence Day game — topping the previous single-game record of 5,184, set just one night earlier.

“An incredible weekend with so many people experiencing the new ballpark for the first time,” Hops President and General Manager K.L. Wombacher said.

The weekend featured giveaways, pregame events, in-game promotions and a postgame fireworks show as the Hops celebrated the nation’s 250th anniversary.

The milestone marked the first major crowd victory for Hops Ballpark, which opened earlier this season after the team spent years playing in Hillsboro.

On the field: The Hops weren’t able to match their off-field success, dropping six straight games to the Spokane Indians heading into the holiday series and sitting five games back in the Northwest League second-half standings.

Hillsboro now heads to Tri-City for a six-game road series before the league’s All-Star break. The Hops return home July 21 for a six-game homestand against the Vancouver Canadians.
